Natural Labor

What is Natural Labor?

natural childbirth: n.
A method of childbirth in
which medical intervention is minimized an the mother often practices
relaxation and breathing techniques to
control pain and ease delivery.

(American Heritage medical dictionary)

The actual definition of what maks up a natural labor is deeply personal. OB's use the term normal physiological delivery for any vaginal delivery that was not induced and that does not result in medical complications. For some women any intervention including an episiotomy is too much. They want to deliver relying  100%  upon their bodies. Others they are willing to accept small interventions as a part of the process. Others do not object or even desire to have pain relieving medications but are concerned with possible effects on the  child and therefore will not use certain pain killers.  Note that the goal here is to minimize intervention. No two births are exactly the same. Not every mother has the same goals and the same mother may set different goals for different births. The true desire of a doula is to make sure that you have  a fulfilling birth, one that empowers you and allows you to feel accomplishment in your birth. This sets a positive tone for mother child bonding and improves the health of the entire family. Figure out what you want without listening to external pressure and my job is to help you achieve that while looking out for your well being.
Most frequently used natural pain management techniques:
Breathing
Movement
Acupressure
Rhythm
Hot and Cold packs
Shower/ Tub
Massage

My goal is for you to have the safest, healthiest, birth possible; on your terms.
