Lait Haven

Picture
The Lait Haven initiative was created  in response to the continuing accounts of women being harrased while trying to feed their children. Through this program business and other spaces can sign up to be a "Lait Haven", a designated safe space for women to feed, knowing that they will be defended against harrassment. Though buinesses cannot  control the actions of other patrons they can make it known that they side with equal rights and tolerance and that harrasment is not welcome within their establishment. When you sign up to be a Lait Haven you sign the credo making a pact to support these values. Lait Havens can be recognized by the symbol  above which is placed conspicuously to let women know that they have come to a safe space.

The lait haven credo:
By signing this, this business or organization pledges to be a safe space for women who want to breastfeed. We acknowledge that breastfeeding is not only natural but the healthiest way to feed a child. We also acknowledge that the prejudice women face while trying to breastfeed is part of an ongoing history of cultural and sexual oppression that we do not want to help perpetuate. We offer not only the space for women to breastfeed but pledge also to defend them, within this space, from those who attempt to harass or abuse them. We stand with women because we stand with humanity.

About the artist:

A living giant, Pat Barrett was raised by wild actors in the swamps of Connecticut. In his teen years he decided to try his luck at blending into non magical society by moving to the badlands of Brooklyn and studying at the Pratt Institute and the Center for Cartoon Studies in New York. Over the past decade he has used imagery to capture parts of the human spirit and weave small enchantments including self published comics including Red House, How to Make Comics the Whiner’s Way and the solo anthology series Oak & Linden. Some have been published in anthologies including Caboose, Psychotherapy and Irene. His other, more rent paying work, includes comic strips on the backs of Garbage Pail Kids (which still exist) and illustrations for clients including the New York Times, Slate, and most recently Funny or Die. His love of comics blossomed into a fondness for the related arts of hand lettering, illustration and animation. He even served as a comics ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain. Settling in an undisclosed Brooklyn location Pat has decided to continue his magical line with his partner Caitlyn Princess of the Amazons (also a master at the art of the living lines). Today they are overseeing the education and sustenance of Maeve who at just a few months old is already a level 3 Mage dabbling in Alchemy.
